| Question: |
Where does the basic data used on these pages come from? |
| Answer: |
There are a relatively small number of high profile caches that are downloaded periodically. The stats for the cachers that have visited those caches are extracted and used for updating the basic data you see on these pages. |
 |
| Question: |
What constitutes a "high profile" cache? |
| Answer: |
The simple explanation is it is a cache that is visited regularly, has a large number of total visits, and the visits are typically successful. |
 |
| Question: |
I know I have more than 200 cache finds but I'm not listed. Why? |
| Answer: |
Again, because I am using selected caches to determine your cache finds, you may not have gotten to one of those caches yet. Go here to get a list of caches near a location. Send me an email with your caching nickname and I will adjust the caches being used so that you appear in the listings if one of the caches near you won't work for you. |
 |
| Question: |
I'm listed and would prefer not to be. Can I be removed from the list? |
| Answer: |
Yes, you can be removed from the list. Send me an email with your caching nickname and I can either remove you completely or make your entry read "anonymous". If you are changed to "anonymous", the number of caches found and the links to your profile and current stats will also be removed. |
 |
| Question: |
How often and when will this list be updated? |
| Answer: |
Twice a week on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 4:00AM Mountain Time (GMT-7). This will capture the bulk of the weekend and weekday caching activities in a timely fashion. Of course, if I'm on an extended caching trip and the automatic update fails, all bets are off! |
 |
| Question: |
So why don't you just go to www.geocaching.com and pull up every cachers statistics rather than fooling around with these "high profile" caches? |
| Answer: |
To do so would put a fairly heavy burden on the www.geocaching.com website. Tests have shown that the results of that approach would not yield significantly better results. If you are really concerned about your current standing just bring up your current stats and figure out where that puts you. |

 |
| Question: |
Are these results for just the US or do they reflect the world? |
| Answer: |
Last time I looked, geocaching was a worldwide activity. To answer the question, the rankings are for the world. |
|
 |
| Question: |
I want to download and play with the data. What can I do? |
| Answer: |
For any webpage that you download, simply highlight the table by clicking into it. Once it is highlighted, press Crtl-C to select it into the clipboard. Then paste it into your application of choice. Normally, that application will be a speadsheat such as Excel but could be almost anything. |
 |
| Question: |
The browser I use is not one of the ones listed. What kind of differences should I expect? |
| Answer: |
The webpages have been tested and found to function correctly with the listed browsers. Any other browser may or may not function properly. Netscape 7.1 is known to malfunction. |
 |
| Question: |
Are all cachers included? |
| Answer: |
Yes. If Geocaching.Com has an account for a cacher, that cacher will be included with very rare exceptions. Species other than homo sapiens will not be excluded solely on that point of difference. |
